Bringing more homes and skills opportunities in Reading
In Reading, we’re starting work this summer on 16 new affordable homes in Elgar Road South. These one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments will be available for affordable rent, typically around 20% less than private market rates. Right now, more than 2,500 households are waiting for affordable housing with Reading Borough Council.
We’re also investing in the community with £3,000 towards skills and training, helping local residents access new job opportunities. To support the local community even further, we’re also contributing £12,500 to improve facilities at Waterloo Meadows Park, just behind the new homes, so everyone can enjoy better outdoor spaces.
These homes are being built to the Future Homes Standard, which means they’ll be warmer, greener, and cheaper to run. With low-carbon heating and energy-saving features, they’re designed to cut carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to older building standards, helping the environment and saving money on energy bills.
And there’s more:
At Green Park Village, we’ve secured 40 affordable rent homes in a beautiful lakeside setting with its own train station and primary school.
- Across Reading, we have over 258 homes being built or planned all affordable and designed to support local people.
