Pest prevention tips
Mind what’s near open windows
Open windows are a great way to let fresh air in, but they can also invite pests in. Avoid leaving food, fruit bowls or used plates on windowsills or countertops.
Waste disposal
Proper waste disposal is one of the most effective ways to prevent pest problems. If you don’t already, try using sealed bags for household waste, avoid leaving rubbish on the floor, make sure bins are closed properly, and don’t let waste pile up inside your home.
Spotting the gaps
Small cracks, holes or gaps around pipework, brickwork or windows can serve as entry points for pests. If you spot anything like this in your home or shared areas, pleased report it as soon as possible so it can be fixed.
Working together
Pest prevention is a shared responsibility. Your actions – like keeping a clean and tidy home, storing food properly and disposing of waste effectively – can help create a clean, pest-free environment for everyone.
Communal areas
Be sure to let us know if there’s a problem with your communal areas and bin stores that is contributing to a pest issue – once it’s reported to us, we can make the necessary repairs to fix the issue.
Our approach to pest concerns
When you contact us to raise a pest issue, the process we’ll follow will vary depending on the pest location, pest type and area.
We’ll first need to determine if an inspection is required by us, or a Pest Control contractor. Responsibility to then treat the pest issue will depend on the cause and the type of pest.
In circumstances where there is a risk to your health and safety and/or damage to the property, we may find it necessary to treat an infestation.
If however, our investigations show the cause to be down to lifestyle rather than a property defect, you may be charged for the treatment works.
Where the cause of the problem is thought to be a property defect, our Repairs & Maintenance team will carry out an inspection and the cost of treatment will be covered by Abri.
