Replacing your Mira showerhead
Replacing a Mira shower head can sometimes lead to issues, particularly with compatibility and water flow. Problems can arise if the new head is not compatible with the existing hose or shower system, or if it has a different flow rate that doesn't suit the shower type. This can cause the showers to burn out completely, which means they will need to be replaced.
If you’re experiencing issues with your showerhead, it's worth trying some of these simple maintenance tips first to see if they solve your issue.
1. Use white vinegar for deep cleaning
-
Fill a plastic bag with white vinegar.
-
Submerge the showerhead (or the nozzle part) in the bag and secure it with a rubber band.
-
Let it soak for 1–8 hours (depending on buildup).
-
Remove the bag, run hot water, and scrub with an old toothbrush.
2. Scrub the nozzles
-
Use a soft toothbrush or a small scrub brush to clean around the rubber nozzles (especially on rainfall or handheld showerheads).
-
For stubborn buildup, dip the brush in baking soda before scrubbing.
3. Unclog spray holes
-
Use a toothpick, safety pin, or needle to gently poke into each spray hole if they’re clogged.
-
Be gentle to avoid damaging the nozzles.
If after trying these and you still haven't resolved your issue, it might be time for a new showerhead.
Mira showers are designed and tested to work with specific Mira Showers showerheads and fittings that ensure optimal performance and safety. Replacing these with alternative brands or non-branded heads—especially those featuring pause functions, restricted flow, or mineral bead filters—can lead to serious performance and safety issues.
These risks include:
1. Scalding Hazard: Restricted flow or pause functions can cause water to build up within the heating element of the shower. When flow resumes, the pre-heated water may be released suddenly, posing a significant risk of scalding.
2. Performance Optimisation: Non-approved showerheads are not designed to optimise water usage throughout the year, leading to inconsistent performance or even damage to the unit.
3. Invalidated Warranty and Maintenance Issues: Using incompatible accessories will void the manufacturer’s warranty and complicate maintenance or repair work.
