Six Months of Wilder Mansbridge
We've partnered with HIWWT to run a project called Wilder Mansbridge, which gives residents the chance to connect with nature, take part in local activities and help make the estate even greener. We wanted to share some highlights from the first phase of the project where community spirit, creativity and care for nature have taken root. From wildlife walks to wildflower meadows, the project has grown from strength to strength.
With support from our Mansbridge Community Development Officer Cara Headon, HIWWT have been running nature-themed drop-ins, seed sowing, bug hunts and craft sessions at the Community Orchard — even in the rain!
To celebrate Mansbridge’s 100-year anniversary, our Grounds Maintenance team also planted 100 new trees across the estate. The trees were specially chosen to support wildlife and provide colour throughout the seasons. Each one has been digitally logged so we can check on its health over time and make sure it grows well.
Mansbridge Primary School has joined the Wilder Schools programme too, and plans are in motion for a new outdoor classroom, tree planting, and even a poetry performance from Hampshire’s Poet Laureate!
Did you know? Mansbridge was originally designed by Herbert Collins based on the Garden City Movement — a plan to bring the best of town and countryside together. Wilder Mansbridge builds on that idea, bringing people closer to nature while supporting wellbeing and creating green spaces to enjoy for years to come.
