We spoke to one of our customers, Sarah, who came to us for assistance with writing a CV that would highlight her experience and set her apart from the rest of her competitors. Sarah is an older lady bursting with confidence and motivation. She enjoys cooking and gardening as well as adrenaline sports and watching drag racing! She’s also a carer to her 17-year old granddaughter. The pair recently moved to Portsmouth from East Riding of Yorkshire in the Autumn of 2024.
When Sarah first came to us at the Central library in Portsmouth, she wasn’t expecting anything positive to come out of it.
“When I signed up for this service I never ever thought I would gain a job from this.” But Sarah’s expectations changed once she was paired with Ian, one of our dedicated and passionate Employment Services team members. In just a few short weeks, Sarah and Ian worked together to build her confidence and improved her CV.
“Ian thinks outside the box. He was able to help me with words and phrases for my CV and helped me prepare for my interviews.” Since engaging with our services and working in collaboration with Ian, Sarah has successfully accepted a part-time job at a Naval base in Portsmouth.
“The CV was amazing, so much so I have a new job starting soon. I definitely wouldn’t have applied for so many jobs if I hadn’t been shown how and had the confidence do this. Ian knows his job and he’s brilliant at it. I was amazed at Ian’s ability to see the potential in me. I’m glad I was teamed up with him, he followed up with phone calls and texts and went out of his way to support me.”
You can come meet Ian and the rest of our employment services team members in your community. The team are in Chard, Clewer and Dedworth, Whitehill and Bordon, Wincanton and Yeovil. Alternatively, we can offer an online and telephone service if you're unable to get to see us in the community.
