Are you in receipt of tax credits?
What this means
If you receive Working and or Child Tax Credits only, you may receive a letter, called a migration notice, from the DWP in the next few months, to let you know that you need to apply for Universal Credit.
It’s important that you take the time to fully understand what this means for you and your income. You will have up to three months to change over before the DWP will stop your current benefit award. The timing of the switch over is crucial to ensure that you don’t lose out on money you are entitled to, and that you do not have a big gap between payments.
If you don’t apply for Universal Credit within three months of the date of the letter your Tax Credits will end.
If you’ve received your migration notice from DWP, and you’re a student or you have savings over £16,000, you may now be able to claim Universal Credit. You can check using a benefit calculator Better Off Calculator | Policy In Practice
