Lending a Hand in Chapel

On Saturday 10 May, we teamed up with Saint Mary’s Church for their annual Saints in the City Day – a community volunteering day packed with feel-good action.

Six volunteers from the church joined our Community Development Officer Jessica Tarrant and Housing Partner, Clare Caullay, to support residents in Chapel. Together, they spruced up individual gardens, filled three large garden waste bags, removed bulky waste, and carried out a litter pick – filling another four large bags of rubbish from communal areas.

We've had great feedback that the support made a real difference, especially for those who struggle to manage their outdoor spaces. Volunteers loved taking part too, with one sharing how great it felt to give back to the community.

"This is my second year helping out and it was so nice to be able to support the local community"

Families also joined in free activities and enjoyed a community lunch hosted by the church – a real celebration of what can be achieved when people work together.

Did you know you can gain funding support towards putting on an event like this? You can apply for up to £3,000 to support a project in one of our communities across the south of England (find out more about where we operate here).

Our next funding window will open 1 – 21 July 2025, you can download an application form here.
