We’re unlike your ordinary job centre. Anyone living in one of our properties benefit from speaking to our Employment Coaches who will work with you to secure employment for as long as it takes, however many tries it takes.

We caught up with Mark recently, who experiences agoraphobia with panic disorder, about how our Employment Coaches were able to tailor our services to his needs.

Our Employment Coaches can support anyone living in an Abri property, dedicated customer journey that is tailored and ongoing for your individual needs.

You can either be referred or make a self-referral to our services, after which Employment Coaches will reach out for an assessment. The assessment will help build a picture of where you are in your journey, your career goals and together we will identify the holistic support needed to achieve this.

We recently spoke to Mark, who experiences agoraphobia with panic disorder, about how we were able to tailor our services to his needs.

I am 51 years old and experience agoraphobia with panic disorder. I trained and worked as an electrician after leaving school, and have worked in other fields like music tutoring running art classes, pub and cafe work. My interests include art, music, guitar, gardening, reading, science, science fiction, psychology, video games and more.

Right now, I’m housebound because I’m agoraphobic.

I asked Abri if there was an team I could talk to about finding work for somebody who is in my position.

Lucy is my work coach and she helped me put together a new CV, and realise skills which I wasn't aware I had.  She matched me with jobs I wouldn’t have considered before. Lucy also pointed me in the direction of finding useful work-related resources, qualification and learning websites which could help with remote work for people who have conditions or similar to mine.

I gained a position for voluntary work at the RNIB as 'Talk and Support Musician Group Facilitator' which I’m very happy about. I’m nervous and excited all at the same time about starting. I have to go through some training in January and then everything starts for real.

My goal was just to get things in place and to know what I needed to do which would act as a catalyst to move forward and take the next step, so I have achieved more than my original goal. I wasn't anticipating any employment so it is a big bonus and great that I managed to land the role with RNIB.

The voluntary work has made me feel useful and I feel I have something to offer in this area and would like to share my own knowledge and experience with other people.

Abri’s Employment Service is outstanding and I wish I was aware of years ago! Thank you very much and I very much appreciate everything Lucy has done for me."
